Privacy Policy

Kevin Lagat ("we", "our", or "us") built the Kip app ("the App") as a free application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Health & Fitness Data

The App reads the following data from Apple HealthKit with your explicit permission:

• Step count
• Walking and running distance
• Cycling distance
• Flights climbed
• Active calories burned
• Heart rate
• Sleep analysis
• Workout minutes
• Mindful minutes

This health data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to any external servers. We do not have access to your health data.

1.2 App Preferences

The App stores your settings, goals, achievements, and notification preferences locally on your device using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults). This data is not transmitted externally.

1.3 Account Information

Currently, the App does not require you to create an account. If we introduce optional account features in the future (such as leaderboards or social features), we will update this Privacy Policy and request your consent before collecting any additional personal information. Any account creation will be optional and clearly communicated.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your health and fitness data is used exclusively to:

• Display your fitness metrics and progress on the dashboard
• Track your daily goals and streaks
• Calculate achievements and milestones
• Generate trends and analytics charts
• Send local notifications based on your progress
• Sync workout data between your iPhone and Apple Watch

3. Data Storage & Security

• Local storage only: All health data, goals, achievements, and preferences are stored on your device.
• Apple HealthKit: Health data is managed by Apple's HealthKit framework, which provides its own encryption and security protections.
• No external servers: We do not operate servers that receive or store your personal data.
• Apple Watch sync: If you use the companion Apple Watch app, workout data is transferred directly between your devices using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, not through any third-party servers.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information or health data with any third parties. Period.

In compliance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines, health data accessed through HealthKit is never shared with third parties, used for advertising, or sold to data brokers.

5. Third-Party Services

The App does not currently integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy accordingly.

6. Notifications

The App may send local notifications (morning summaries, goal reminders, achievement celebrations, etc.) if you grant notification permissions. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. You can customize or disable all notification types in the App's settings, or revoke notification permission through iOS Settings at any time.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App does not require account creation or collect identifying information.

8. Your Rights

Since your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it:

• Access: All your data is visible within the App.
• Deletion: Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data. You can also revoke HealthKit permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
• Portability: Your health data remains in Apple Health and is accessible by any HealthKit-compatible app you authorize.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make significant changes (such as introducing account features or data collection), we will notify you through the App or other appropriate means.
